The international project has been won again! This time it concerns the most important and necessary thing at this time - psychological rehabilitation in the war and post-war times.
The Ukrainian Academy of Sciences is actively working for the good of Ukraine in this difficult time of trials!
The new project is implemented jointly with the World Union of Doctors, the Association of Doctors of the Carpathian Region and the Estonian Medical Export Cluster, as well as the Tallinn College of Health Care from Estonia.
As part of the project, at least 300 families with psychological trauma will be consulted in Ukraine during the year, and specialized trainings and information days will be organized for a total of 200 Ukrainian medical workers and teachers of higher educational institutions. Estonian psychiatric specialists will help hundreds of wounded Ukrainian soldiers and their families by providing psychological first aid to families and organizing psychological counseling trainings for Ukrainian healthcare institutions.
According to Inge Suder, a member of the board of directors of the Estonian Medical Export Cluster, one in five people who have been in a war situation during the last ten years suffer from various mental disorders, ranging from depression to post-traumatic stress - according to the World Health Organization ( WHO). "If we extend the above statistics to Ukraine, then approximately 9.6 million people in Ukraine are at risk of various mental disorders. Increasing the availability of psychological first aid after traumatic events helps people cope better and helps the Ukrainian health care system to cope with the burden more effectively."
"In the conditions of the Russian-Ukrainian war, the question of rehabilitation is a question of national security of Ukraine. Rehabilitation in the context of psychological assistance occupies one of the central places in the modern psychological rehabilitation of military personnel, since military stress has a chronic cause and a tendency to gradually worsen over time. The need for rehabilitation have today not only soldiers who return from the front, but also their parents, wives, children. Psychologists will be needed by people who are in the zone of temporary occupation, living in the front-line areas, internally displaced persons, as well as those who have in the occupied territory relatives. Potential patients of rehabilitation centers may also include journalists, policemen, firefighters, construction workers, electricians and other people who for a long time perform professional duties almost on the front line, i.e. in extreme and traumatic conditions. Professional training of Ukrainian medical workers in in this field is an archival issue and will help Ukraine to win this war and overcome all its consequences", - emphasizes Oleksandr Marusyn, chairman of the board of the World Union of Doctors, member of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences.
